How We Hire Product Designers at Teleport

At Teleport, we look for Product Designers with strong opinions on user experience who thrive in fast-paced, highly technical, and collaborative environments. We have designed our hiring process to be transparent and engaging, ensuring you feel empowered to accelerate your career.
Here’s a look at our step-by-step hiring process
Step 1: The Recruiter Call
You’ll start by meeting one of our recruiters in a 30-minute Zoom call. The Recruiter will share a brief introduction to life at Teleport, walk through the interview process to provide a high-level overview, and answer all of your questions.
We want to get to know you too! Tell us what is important to you and what types of challenges excite you.
Why we do it: We have an awesome and collaborative team that loves helping each other. This includes helping you decide if Teleport is right for you.
Step 2: The Hiring Manager Interview
The next step is a 45-minute Zoom meeting with the Director of Product Design at Teleport. During this call, the Hiring Manager will share details about the team structure, goals, and strategy. They will share the Interview Guide and discuss the process in detail.
This is your opportunity to get to know the team and the role. Feel free to ask questions. Leave no stone unturned!
By the end of the call, you should have a deeper understanding of what it means to be a Product Designer at Teleport.
Why we do it: We value each other’s time. We understand that interviews can be time consuming, so we’d want you to have as much context as possible. Should you decide to continue with the interview process, you’ll know exactly what the team is looking for and what you’ll need to demonstrate to succeed.
Step 3: The Portfolio Review
Next, you’ll meet with two Product Designers in our team and show off 2-3 recent designs in your portfolio. During this 1 hour Zoom meeting, we are interested in your opinions and seeing your process in the context of feature work.
Why we do it: We want to understand your approach to designing products including: time management, systematic thinking, user research, competitor analysis, flow charts, prototyping, product strategy, design scalability, etc.
Step 4: The Product Design Challenge
Do you have what it takes? In this round, you’ll work with members of product management, product design, and engineering teams to discover what it’s like to collaborate on a small design project from start to finish.
Prior to kickoff, we’ll invite you to join a private slack channel in the Teleport Community Slack and share the challenge brief. We want to make sure you have enough time to organize your thoughts and plot your course.
The Challenge consists of three phases:
- Kickoff: A 1-hour session led by you.
- Async communication: You’ll have the team’s support at your finger tips. Ask questions and share your progress!
- Design Presentation: A 1-hour session scheduled 1 week after the kickoff to present your final design and discuss design decisions
Remember the Interview Guide from your first meeting with the Hiring Manager? It includes the scoring rubric for the challenge, so you won’t have to wonder what the team is looking for.
Be yourself! We want to see what you can do!
Why we do it: We value transparency. The Product Design Challenge will give you a real taste of life at Teleport.
Once you’ve completed the Design Challenge, the team will convene. Should all things align, welcome to the team!
