Teleport Brings Trusted Computing to Modern Infrastructure with Accelerating Adoption of Infrastructure Identity

  • As the scale and complexity of elastic computing environments continue to grow, traditional forms of security, such as static credentials and standing privileges, increase in risk and are vulnerable to identity attacks
  • Infrastructure Identity makes infrastructure, the backbone of critical business services, resilient to human factors and compromise by threat actors while accelerating velocity of engineering programs

OAKLAND, CA, February 25, 2025 – Teleport today outlined its vision for Infrastructure Identity, an approach to securing infrastructure across clouds and datacenters that eliminates anonymous computing, permits human or machine access only when there is a task that needs to be performed, and provides granular tracking of who is doing what in critical business systems. This approach improves infrastructure resiliency to human factors and identity compromise while also accelerating engineering productivity.

Teleport’s vision comes in the wake of the rapid and accelerating adoption of Teleport’s Infrastructure Identity platform, with revenue growing at approximately 50% per year. To date, more than 500 companies, of which almost half are companies larger than 1000 employees, have adopted Teleport. Many of these are leaders in their industry, including three out of the top five financial services firms, three out of the top ten software firms, five out of the top 20 largest market cap companies, and market leaders in banking, payment processing, manufacturing, cryptocurrency exchanges, technology consulting, security software, and grocery delivery applications.

“The complexity of cloud and data center technology requires a new approach to securing infrastructure that addresses its scale and dynamic nature,” said Ev Kontsevoy, co-founder and CEO of Teleport. “At its foundation, Infrastructure Identity eliminates all static credentials, instead using cryptographic identity based on real-world attributes, and consolidates identities of all humans, machines and workloads, and infrastructure assets into one unified identity layer. Then, by applying zero trust and least privileged access principles, Infrastructure Identity enables companies to easily manage and govern authentication and authorization at scale. The benefit is that this approach allows an organization to grow its engineering headcount, server fleets, and workloads, without degrading its security posture

Infrastructure refers to distributed systems across datacenters and clouds, such as Kubernetes, databases, servers, remote desktops, applications, and microservices that are designed and managed by engineering and infrastructure teams. In many industries like financial services and SaaS companies, this infrastructure stack is the backbone of the company’s product offering, or core to its business operation. This focus on infrastructure is distinct from IT use cases, which, in contrast, are centered broadly on employees and how they interact with company systems/services.

Jack Poller, Principal Analyst at Paradigm Technica, notes, “The introduction of Infrastructure Identity as a new paradigm underscores the shift towards a security model where every entity, from hardware to AI, is authenticated and authorized based on real-time needs. This approach mitigates risks associated with scale and complexity. By adopting these strategies, organizations can protect their assets more effectively while maintaining compliance, reducing operational overhead, and significantly improving their cybersecurity posture in an era where identity is the prime target.”

Teleport also today announced Teleport Machine & Workload Identity, which enables customers to now unify infrastructure access management and governance of both human and non-human identities in the Teleport platform. Read more about it here.
