Teleport's Evolution: Today’s Name Changes Reflect a Strategic Shift in Infrastructure Security

by Diana Jovin Feb 25, 2025

As the world of infrastructure security grows more complex, maintaining clarity and precision in how we present our solutions is critical. Teleport’s platform's capabilities have expanded significantly over time. To better align with our mission and help customers understand the full potential of our platform, we are introducing new names for our product suite.

The most significant change is the evolution from the Teleport Access Platform to the Teleport Infrastructure Identity Platform. This change is not just a rebranding exercise—it reflects our strategic emphasis first, on the needs of infrastructure leaders, and second, the critical role that a unified identity layer based on cryptographic identities plays in eliminating anonymous computing from infrastructure. While "Access Platform" focused primarily on enabling secure access to resources, "Infrastructure Identity Platform" underscores the importance of identity as the foundation of all access, governance, and security operations. Read more about our views on Infrastructure Identity in today’s press release.

As part of this transformation, we are also updating the names of our individual products:

  • Teleport Access to Teleport Zero Trust Access
  • Teleport Identity to Teleport Identity Governance
  • Teleport Policy to Teleport Identity Security

Here’s why these changes are happening and what they mean for our users.

From Teleport Access to Teleport Zero Trust Access

Why the Change?

The term "Access" was broad and didn't fully capture our commitment to Zero Trust security principles. By rebranding to Zero Trust Access, we emphasize our view that all secrets are vulnerabilities, and that the combination of a unified, trusted identity layer combined with zero trust networking throughout the infrastructure stack is what enables organizations to make their computing environments trustworthy.

From Teleport Identity to Teleport Identity Governance

Why the Change?

“Identity,” like “Access” proved to be too broad a term. The focus of this product within the Teleport Infrastructure Identity Platform is to harden and govern both human and non-human identities. By adding “Governance” to the name, we are able to make this product’s role in the platform architecture clearer.

From Teleport Policy to Teleport Identity Security

Why the Change?

We found that the term “Policy” was frequently associated with the administration and oversight of privileges. The role of this product is to enable infrastructure leaders to identify and mitigate risk across their infrastructure, enabling them to prioritize and remediate risky access patterns, such as blocking shadow access. We found that “Identity Security” more accurately captures the role of this product.

A Strategic Shift for a Secure Future

These name changes are more than just cosmetic—they reflect our commitment to a comprehensive, identity-centric approach to infrastructure security. In addition to the name changes we are making today, we also are adding Teleport Machine & Workload Identity to our offering, providing infrastructure leaders with a unified way to govern everyone and everything that is in their infrastructure. As we continue to innovate, these new names will help us communicate our value more clearly, ensuring our users understand the full potential of our platform. We’re excited about this evolution and look forward to helping you navigate the complexities of modern infrastructure security with confidence.
