Gluu uses Teleport to Provide Clients Instant Access to Open-source Solutions

Seamless access

Over the years, Gluu has documented many ways that it uses Teleport; one such way being to leverage Gluu products in tandem with Teleport, providing Gluu clients a gateway for their tools. Before Teleport, clients had an Identity Access Management (IAM) solution through Gluu, but still needed unified access across cloud and on-premises infrastructure, as well as resources and applications. Using Gluu and Teleport in tandem, users have dynamic access to different resources based on their role or group without needing to map users manually. If an individual's role was modified, a user's access to resources gets modified.

Gluu also uses Teleport to manage access to infrastructure securely without relying on long-lived certificates and keys. Using Gluu and Teleport, users can automatically access resources using a simple join token that's being rotated within common secret layers, such as Google Secrets, Kubernetes Secrets, AWS Secrets, and HashiCorp Vault.

By leveraging Teleport across various use cases and improving access to the company's administrators and customer support teams, employees have instant access to all of their resources. Having rules set up and automation in place across every customer and every dev environment, Gluu has retasked at least one full-time employee from managing access to focusing on higher-value activities.

Faster and more secure

“With complex and sensitive data structures, it takes a lot of time and resources to manage them and ensure that only the right people have access. It also requires a lot of back-and-forths, collaborating with clients to ensure only the right people have access,” says Abudayyeh. “Combining the use of Teleport with enhancements to our own workflows helped us accelerate onboarding from five days to fifteen minutes. I'd give Teleport at least 40% of the credit for those series of enhancements.”

In addition to the efficiencies gained for onboarding new customers, Teleport has helped Gluu add a layer of auditing capabilities. The company can quickly review who has access to which resources within one defined yaml and make edits as necessary. Changes to access can also be seen through recorded sessions so that administrators can review where possible issues may have arisen and get solutions faster for clients.
